If you're passionate about water sports, or a beginner you've found the perfect playground! For a more adrenaline-filled adventure, head to one of the nearby beaches to take a lesson or rent paddle boards, surfboards, sailing dinghies, and windsurfing boards. Whether you seek tranquility or excitement, there's something here for every water enthusiast!
Step right outside your door and cycle into the stunning surrounding countryside, where you'll find picturesque tracks suited for all skill levels. Discover historic manors and charming churches, cross ancient fords over the river, and pause for a delightful picnic while picking wild blackberries along the way. For an extended adventure, join the old railway track (voie verte) at Rosporden and cycle to Concarneau for a leisurely lunch, then cycle back or enjoy a relaxing bus ride back for just €1!
Escape to the coast for a day filled with thrilling adventures! Embark on a boat journey to the breathtaking Glenan Archipelago, often dubbed the Breton Caribbean for its crystal-clear waters and pristine white sandy beaches. Try your hand at sea fishing, where you can reel in sea bass and mackerel. Or, join a guided tour and experience the excitement of dolphin spotting off the coast of Concarneau.
If you are looking for a change from the beach, then there are lots of other fun places to spend the day or afternoon in Brittany.
Within a short drive, Adrenature a tree climbing centre, perfect for those young adrenalin junkies. Aven Parc is just 10 mins drive and a fantastic theme park with water activities, a petting farm and a fun ‘Maize Maze’ where you can quite literally lose yourself all afternoon. At Brest you can visit the amazing Oceanopolis, here you can take a unique journey through the worlds oceans and watch the sharks in the aquarium.

Throughout the year, especially in the summer, Bretons honor their heritage with traditional festivals. These celebrations showcase the vibrant culture of Brittany through music, dance, and various customs.
Many of the larger festivals feature a procession on one of the days, showcasing local Breton bands and dance troupes adorned in traditional costumes unique to each town. These festivals typically include concerts, frequently accompanied by free fireworks displays, and offer food, wine, and beer at very reasonable prices.

This ongoing 50-year project is around 40 minutes’ drive from Kernameriet. One of the hidden artistic gems of Brittany, it’s part of a mission to build 1000 statues of Breton Saints. While the granite sculptures vary in height (some are 4m), size and artist, they create the same sense of excitement for the whole family. There are already many statues to see and each year a few more are added, a truly stunning and unique place to see.
When we first moved to Brittany, we fell in love with this beautiful region. Visitors will be absolutely enchanted by the awe-inspiring views and natural beauty. From walks along the coast to ancient forests as filled with legends as massive boulders and underground waterfalls, there’s plenty to take in.
This region is bursting with history! From amazing architecture and castles to World War Two U-Boat Pens, there’s plenty of local history to explore. There are also many museums to visit covering all tastes and ages including: Breton historical museums including on local figures (Eric Tabarly Museum to name one), Museums about the World Wars and the French Resistance, and Fishing & Maritime Museums.
French markets, showcasing regional food artisans, are unmatched in their variety and vibrancy. Daily food markets offer new discoveries, while summer evenings come alive with music and street food. Larger towns boast indoor markets, 'Les Halles,' open Monday through Saturday. Be mindful of lunchtime closures, as markets typically wrap up by noon. For treasure hunters, 'Brocante' and 'marché aux puces' (flea markets) are a haven for antiques and eclectic finds, promising potential bargains.
Shopping in the towns nearby is a pleasant experience as it never seems to get too crowded and there are lots of individual and boutique shops. Some shops will still shut for lunch, but this is generally in the smaller towns or villages. If you are hunting for souvenirs and presents to take home then you will find plenty shops selling the local produce, cider, biscuits, crepes etc.
If wine is on your shopping list, there are lots of caves close by selling wine at reasonable prices - you can even take your own container to fill up! You will also find the supermarkets have a good range of wines.

In France, lunch is a very important part of the day as it is time to socialise, relax and savour delicious food. It’s that important that most smaller towns and villages still shut up for lunch!
Brittany is famous for its crepes and galettes and you will find plenty of restaurants and cafes specialising in this local cuisine. They are often served with a ‘bol’ of cider, which is a small cup. The galettes are savoury and the crepes sweet and they come with a variety of fillings – there’s one for even the fussiest of eaters! You will also find the crepes may vary as often the recipe has been handed down within the family as a closely guarded secret.
Seafood and shellfish are abundant in Concarneau, where there's even a fish auction, though an early rise is required to witness it! The seafood here is unparalleled, frequently featured on the 'plat du jour' menu with varieties you may have never encountered. A fresh seafood platter is a must-try; it's sure to delight. Enjoy sampling fresh oysters with views of the Belon river or the Concarneau bay.
Cider lovers and occasional samplers alike must not miss the extensive variety available here, with numerous local producers offering their unique takes. Exploring different bottles is highly recommended, as each boasts its own flavor profile, ranging from brut to demi-sec to sec, catering to every palate. Additionally, embarking on the local cider trail provides a delightful opportunity to visit the farms and discover where this region's cider originates.
